FAQs for Top Dog K-9 Camp, Senoia GA

Where do we conduct these private lessons?

We are currently conducting lessons in Senoia, Georgia at the Senoia Movie Ranch; We prefer to use outdoor areas when weather permits because they offer a good baseline level of distractions that we can help proof against during each lesson! We book daytime, evening, and weekend lessons. We try our best to accommodate schedules to make things easy for our clients.

Why Train with the Top Dog Pro Clicker?

The clicker is based on scientific principles of Classical Conditioning (where Pavlov's dogs at the sound of a bell because they had learned to associate that sound with food) and operant Conditioning (where Skinner's pigeons a series of movements in order to receive food). Pro clicker utilizes these two proven and well-respected methods of behavior modification to quickly and easily enhance your dog's training experience. The Pro Clicker System helps your teach your dog to repeat behaviors that lead to rewards and positive reinforcement.

How does the sound from the Pro-Training Clicker train your dog?

Initially it doesn't. The "clicking" sound must be paired with something your dog naturally finds enjoyable, such as tasty food in the form of bite-sized treats. (Treats the size of a navy bean will work well.) Clicking the instant your dog does something right, and then giving him a bite-sized treat will allow your dog to associate the action with a reward.

What is an “e-collar”?

An “e-collar” is basically a collar with a stimulation mechanism (similar to an electric fence collar). The collar is controlled by a remote that the handler holds. The remote allows you to maintain full control of your dog for up to 1200 yards! It is not used as a punishment or a “shock” as many people assume, it is simply used as a training device for communicating with your dog.

There is a reason that the top law enforcement agencies, military, and top federal agencies: patrol, detection, and search and rescue dogs are trained using e-collars!

Still not sure? Don’t think we can help? Come meet us and ask us your questions in person!

How much time per day do I need to train my dog?

The great thing about this training is that you don’t have to set a specific amount of time aside per day in order to train your dog! We will teach you how to incorporate this training into your daily routine. We do ask that you spend 30 minutes per day working with your dog for the first 4 weeks of training, to set a good foundation for the training, but after that integrating the training into your daily routine will be easy!

“We don’t discriminate – if a “trainer” tells you they either charge more for or do not train certain breeds, they may not be a real “trainer”!

How long will this training take?

We offer a basic and advanced clicker-trained obedience course.  Our basic course will teach your dog to understand and respond to commands that all dogs should know.

Basic Obedience is generally done in FOUR lessons.

If you are interested in advanced obedience after you and your dog has completed the basic obedience, it is also an option!

What if I have a puppy that is not 5 months old?

Not a problem! We can still train your pup using the clicker/treat method! This will give your new pup a good foundation for basic obedience! Additionally, We can teach you how to house train your puppy. He/ she will learn how to let you know they need to go. So they don’t continue having accidents in the house.

Bonus: If you come to us for the puppy class, we’ll give you a 10% discount on our other packages when you’re ready to book more advanced training!

How will my dog benefit from this training?

Your dog will benefit tremendously! Most behavior problems (biting, chewing, jumping, etc.) are based off of a lack of exercise, discipline, and out of boredom! With this training, your dog is receiving top-quality obedience training, which in turn, allows you to give your dog freedom to run around off-leash and play! So by doing this training your dog is not bored because it is learning and being stimulated, it is running freely off-leash so it is getting exercise, and it is getting obedience/discipline! Not only does all of this greatly benefit your dog, but it also benefits you and your family!

Remember, if you do not employ your dog and give it a job to do (training), it will become self-employed. A self-employed dog will cost YOU money!
